Review Of Cavalier Oceanfront Resort In San Simeon

The Central California Coast is one of my favorite places for quick weekend escapes. On my most recent trip to San Simeon, I stayed at the Cavalier Oceanfront Resort which I absolutely loved!

Cavalier Oceanfront Resort is very pet-friendly which is why it was my main pick for a family getaway with our infant and our fur baby. The hotel is set on top of bluffs just steps from the beach with incredible views of the Pacific Ocean.

The property is conveniently located next to Highway 1 with easy access to southern Big Sur. Cambria is also just a short drive from the hotel which has a cute downtown full of shops, restaurants, and wine-tasting spots.

Here is my experience staying at the Cavalier Oceanfront Resort in San Simeon!

Cavalier Oceanfront Resort Location

Cavalier Oceanfront Resort is situated in San Simeon right next to the Pacific Ocean. The location is one of the best parts of staying at this hotel! You’ll be just steps from the beach and many of the rooms come with ocean or partial ocean views.

There are several hotels to choose from in this area, but Cavalier Oceanfront Resort has the closest location to the ocean and even has a private trail that leads down to the beach.

Cavalier Oceanfront Resort is a great place to stay if you’re planning a road trip to Big Sur, Monterey, or San Francisco.

The Accomodations

Our room at Cavalier Oceanfront Resort in San Simeon.

The rooms at Cavalier Oceanfront Resort are comfortable and offer excellent amenities. Our room came with a mini fridge, a fully stocked coffee bar, and a wood fireplace where we could enjoy a cozy fire at night.

We booked a partial ocean-view room with a patio where we could enjoy coffee and breakfast in the mornings. The patio was surrounded by trees offering privacy from the other hotel guests.

Cavalier Oceanfront Resort is one of the best San Simeon hotels on the beach.

If you book one of the premium rooms along King’s Row, you can enjoy direct views of the ocean from the comfort of your room.

My favorite part of the stay was the complimentary champagne and note that we received in our room upon arrival. It was such a sweet touch and immediately lifted our spirits after a long drive!

Cavalier Oceanfront Resort Pet Policy

Cavalier Oceanfront Resort is very pet-friendly!

One of the main reasons why we chose to stay at this hotel is their excellent pet policy. Cavalier Oceanfront Resort is very pet friendly meaning there are no hidden pet fees and no limitations to pet breeds or sizes.

We have a larger dog so it can be a challenge finding a place to stay while traveling. While many hotels consider themselves to be pet friendly, they often charge a pet fee per stay and limit the size of dogs. At Cavalier Oceanfront Resort you don’t need to worry about any of that since they have no limitations!

The property has plenty of green spaces to take them for walks and pet stations with doggie bags for cleanup. They also offer special doggie meals at their onsite restaurant so your four-legged friend can enjoy all the perks just like you!

Resort Amenities

Outdoor pool with views of the Pacific Ocean.

Cavalier Oceanfront Resort offers a variety of on-property activities to keep the entire family entertained!

The hotel features an indoor pool and two outdoor pools, one with a spa. The pools are slightly heated so even in the spring we went for a quick swim at the pool after sightseeing.

Along with the pool, families and kids can play a variety of lawn games at the games court including a life-size chess, checkers, tic tac toe, and corn hole.

In the evenings you can bring a glass of wine and enjoy views of the sunset at one of the many lounge chairs lined up along the ocean bluffs. When the weather gets chilly, grab a bundle of wood and cozy up around the outdoor fire pits in the grassy area.

The first pits and games work on a first come first serve and get taken up quickly. If you want to enjoy s’mores, you can purchase s’mores packages at the front desk.

The property also features a beachfront volleyball court and a fitness center so you can workout while traveling.

Beach Access

Pathway to the beach from Cavalier Inn.

The hotel property is situated at the edge of ocean bluffs with views of the Pacific Ocean. The hotel has a short trail that leads down to the beach where you can go for a walk on the shoreline.

The beach access trail is located at the end of San Simeon Avenue to the left of the hotel rooms. The pathway is very short but there is a somewhat steep section at the end so it is not wheelchair accessible. There are other places where you can access the beach from the bluffs next to the hotel as well.

The beach is dog-friendly so we took our pup here for a quick walk in the mornings to get his energy out. It can be a bit chilly and windy at the beach so be sure to grab a jacket or a sweater before heading down there.

Food & Drinks

Enjoying room service for breakfast that can be ordered from Cavelier Oceanfront Resort restaurant.

When traveling with our baby and dog we appreciate convenience when it comes to food. When hunger strikes, you can order room service or head down to the Cavalier Coastal Kitchen for in-room dining.

For breakfast, we ordered room service while for dinner we would grab takeout and head down to the beach to watch sunset.

There are other restaurants near Cavalier Oceanfront Resort just across Highway 1 that you can walk to. For one dinner we walked over to San Simeon Beach Bar & Grill at San Simeon Lodge which has a large pet-friendly patio.

Within a short drive, you can also reach downtown Cambria where you can find additional dining options.

Elephant Seal Vista Point

Elephant Seal Vista Point is one of my favorite stops when traveling along Highway 1 on the Central Coast. This is a protected area where you can observe a colony of elephant seals lounging on the beach.

The best time to see elephant seals in California is from November to January when the elephant seal numbers are at their peak. During this time, you can expect to see nearly 20,000 elephant seals in this area.

There are wooden boardwalks and viewpoints set up along the coast where you can view these amazing animals from a safe distance. Overall, this is a great stop for the entire family and especially exciting for little kids!
