Review Of Outbound Mammoth Hotel In Mammoth Lakes
Mammoth Lakes is one of my favorite mountain escapes in California. From stunning hiking trails to gorgeous mountain views and fun winter sports, Mammoth has it all!
On my most recent trip to Mammoth, I stayed at the recently renovated Outbound Mammoth which I absolutely loved.
Inspired by the great outdoors, this hip hotel features cozy, vibrant rooms along with an outdoor pool, hot tub, and a lively restaurant. The overall atmosphere of the property is very inviting and modern.

Outbound Mammoth Location
Outbound Mammoth is located at the heart of downtown Mammoth Lakes. This hotel is a quick walk or drive away from the best that this region has to offer!
Within a short drive, you can reach all of the top Mammoth attractions including ski resorts, hiking trails, and nearby lakes. From the hotel, you can walk to many of the local restaurants, shops, and grocery stores.
Near the hotel, you can stop by the Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center to get more information on things to do in the area. Outbound Mammoth is a great place to stay if you’re planning an adventure to Mammoth Lakes year-round!

The Accommodations
This newly renovated hotel features a variety of room choices to fit different group sizes and needs.
The hotel offers standard rooms along with stand-alone cabins, chalets, and villas. Larger groups can even book the six-bedroom chalet that sleeps up to 14 people!
We stayed in the Deluxe Two Queen room that is part of the main lodge. The room was simple yet tastefully decorated with bright and lively accents. It came with all the necessities for a comfortable stay including a full bathroom, a smart TV, a microwave, and a mini fridge.
Our room had a coffee maker with individual craft coffee packets. If you need more caffeine to get the day started, head to the lobby where you can find the coffee and tea bar.
The room was spacious enough to accommodate two adults, a dog, and a 10-month-old baby. The windows had blackout curtains which was great for when our infant needed to take his daytime naps. Cribs are not available at this property so we brought our own travel crib.
If you want more kitchen amenities, consider booking the studio cabin or villa apartment that comes with an efficiency kitchen. Some of the chalet rooms come with a full kitchen which is great for making healthy meals while traveling.
Food & Drinks
The Oubound Mammoth Hotel has a few food options on the property.
In the mornings, walk over to the Cafe Crêpe Food Truck that’s located in the parking lot next to the Bar Sierra restaurant. Here you can try sweet and savory crepes that will fuel you up for the day’s adventures ahead.
For dinner, it’s all about the Bar Sierra In Mammoth Lakes. The restaurant and bar are open from 4 pm to 10 serving drinks, bites, and main plates.
The menu focuses on comfort food such as nachos, wings, BBQ meats, sandwiches, and salads. There is an outdoor patio with seating if you want to bring your furry friend along for dinner.
The restaurant is located adjacent to a game room where you can play old arcade games after dining. This was so fun and brought back many childhood memories for us!
At the Lobby Wine Bar, you can enjoy a glass of wine around the cozy lobby fireplace. Unfortunately, we stayed here during the shoulder season when the lobby wine bar was closed for the season.
Hotel Amenities
While you could spend your stay relaxing in your room, there is so much more that this property offers!
If you’re heading out to one of the local lakes, grab a complimentary Oru kayak rental. In the winter you can take advantage of the on-property ski storage space and ski equipment rental service.
After a day full of fun adventures, relax in the hotel’s hot tub or go for a refreshing swim in the heated outdoor pool. You can also pamper yourself at the hotel’s sauna and steam room.
If you’re looking to stay in, you can find a small fitness center, lawn games, and cozy fire pits scattered throughout the property.
Outbound Mammoth Pet Policy
If you’re looking for a family-friendly hotel that also accepts dogs, the Outbound Mammoth is perfect for that! Aside from Motel 6, this is one of the most dog-friendly hotels in Mammoth which is why we chose it for our visit.
We have a larger dog so it can be challenging finding places to stay while traveling. They do not have size restrictions but there is a pet fee of $50 per night. Up to 2 dogs are allowed to stay per room.
The property has a small dog park where you can take them for their bathroom needs. There are also plenty of doggie stations with poop bags throughout the hotel.
Things To Do In Mammoth
Here are some of the most popular activities to do on your trip to Mammoth Lakes:
Mammoth Mountain Ski Area
Most people who visit Mammoth in winter come here for its world-class skiing and snowboarding. With an average snowfall of 400 inches per year, Mammoth has a long skiing season that lasts from November into the summer.
Mammoth Mountain is the main ski resort in the region with over 3500 acres of skiable terrain suitable for all ski levels. You can also take skiing and snowboarding lessons by the Main Lodge to freshen up your skills.
Hiking Trails
Mammoth Lakes is home to many incredible hiking trails that you can explore in the summer season. Many of these trails are quite short making them a great day activity for families with kids and dogs.
A few of my favorite hiking trails in Mammoth are:
Hot Creek Geologic Site
Hot Creek Geologic Site is a unique geothermal attraction with a meandering river surrounded by tall mountain peaks. Here you can see Earth releasing pressure from steaming geysers and bubbling hot springs.
This location is open to visitors year-round, but winter does require a bit of a hike through the snow to reach it. After heavy snowfall, you might need snowshoes, skis, or crampons to reach Hot Creek Geological Site on foot.
Rock Creek Road
Rock Creek Road is one of the highest paved roads in California. With beautiful mountain views, gorgeous hiking trails, and serene lakes, you can easily spend an entire day exploring this area!
Some of the most popular stops along Rock Creek Road include Rock Creek Lake, Little Lakes Valley Trail, and Rock Creek Lakes Resort known for its delicious BBQ and pies.

Hot Springs
There is nothing better after a busy day of activities than to relax in a beautiful outdoor hot springs!
Mammoth is home to several outdoor hot springs. Some are easy to access while others require a short hike to reach them.
A few of the most popular hot springs in this area include:
Convict Lake
Located a 15-minute drive south of Mammoth Lakes, Convict Lake is a popular destination to visit year-round. In the warmer months, you can hike the 3-mile-long Convict Lake Trail that loops around the entire lake.
This lake is known for its turquoise color which looks especially stunning on bright, sunny days. This area is also popular for fishing, swimming, and boating.
With its ideal location and gorgeous mountain views, the Outbound Mammoth is one of the best places to stay in Mammoth Lakes!
